随着电脑喷绘设备的进步和广告耗材质量的提高，广告生产成本不断降低，广告制作价格不断下跌，但是用户对广告图片质量的要求却不断提高。为了起到保护图片、增强图片质感的作用，许多广告都采用了在照片上覆膜的办法。可以说这也是广告图片后期制作中最为关键的一道工序。
目前给图片或者照片覆膜的方法很多，最为常用的是采用冷裱技术进行覆膜。冷裱实际上就是在图片和照片上覆上一层冷裱膜。如果是较小的照片或图片的话，冷裱膜完全可以通过手工来贴制。但是如果需要覆膜的对象较大，手工贴制会出现起泡、膜不结实等情况，因此就需要使用冷裱机来实现了。实际上冷裱机也就是一种将冷裱膜覆制在照片或者图片上的设备。一台好的冷裱机应该有不起泡，可裱长图片，使用寿命长等特点。
通过冷裱的图片和照片不但可以防止磨损，还可以防水，尤其是户外广告中有着非常广泛的应用。冷
